The game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics was a classic, with the Fargo Center seeing two of the biggest league giants lock horns. Jayson Tatum and Joel Embiid, two of the season’s MVP contenders, went toe-to-toe with one another. The 76ers were coming off a five-game winning run and faced the league’s top team, at least statistically. The final few seconds of the game, though, were a rollercoaster of emotions for everybody watching it. Huge shots after big shots, stars making the biggest plays with the game on the line, Embiid and Tatum delivered a spectacle on Saturday.
The Celtics and 76ers were deadlocked at 107-107 with less than five seconds remaining. Doc Rivers had already used all of the 76ers’ timeouts. Tatum stepped on the floor after the timeout and brilliantly executed the Celtics’ last play of the game designed for him. After a brilliant move from out of bounds, Tatum showed his stellar dribbling skills and shooting touch as drilled in the game-winner.
What occurred next made it to the highlight reels, despite its ineffectiveness. After Tatum’s shot, Joel Embiid immediately asked for the ball and hoisted a full-court shot. To many people’s surprise, the ball went in, sending the entire arena into a frenzy. Nevertheless, the officials called a no-basket after the ball had left Embiid’s grasp after the buzzer, upsetting the home supporters.
Joel Embiid’s massive 41-point game could not save the 76ers from loaded Celtics’ onslaught
Despite the defeat, Joel Embiid had a fantastic night. He had a 41-point game, shooting over 50% from the field and making things happen on both ends of the floor. He shot 12-22 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds to go with five assists. The defending scoring champion also had three crucial blocks.
The Celtics and 76ers have extremely talented rosters. Both teams have individuals who can get going and lead from the front on any given night. A playoffs series between the two teams would undoubtedly be fascinating to witness.
