Watch: John Wall gets a heartwarming standing ovation by Wizards fans

With over 7 minutes left on the clock, John Wall stole the ball from the Wizards, he ran a fast break and hit a beautiful jumper over Corey Kispert. Despite being from the opposite team, the love for their former star was overwhelming in Washington. Fans rose up cheering for him, and there it was, “this is still my city” John Wall exclaimed.
When a reporter asked Wall in the postgame interview about what he said to the crowd. “Still my city,” an emotional Wall said. John scored 13 points in his return to Washington. The Wizards had their 6th straight loss handed to them by the Clippers.
John Wall says he had been waiting for four years to return to Washington
John Wall has suffered a lot in the last few years. He had a career-ending torn Achilles and found himself largely out of the league for a great amount of time. Once the most loved star in his city of Washington, John Wall found it hard to get a place in the league. He went through one of the hardest phases of his life and once contemplate suicide as well.
After winning against the Wizards, in his postgame press conference Wall said that he was waiting for this moment for years and that he was trying his best to keep himself clear of any injury or Covid. “This is something I’ve been waiting for for four years. The first time I got trade, I came back with Houston, it was COVID… ‘Don’t have no injury coming to this game. If anybody got COVID, don’t come around me.’ I just wanted to be at peace,” said Wall.
Wall also said after all these years with the city he deserved all the appreciation and he was glad he got it. He said, “I don’t want nobody to mess this moment up and I’m glad I got the opportunity to appreciate it and be here, get the love that I think I deserve and I feel like I got my flowers.” Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue said Wall deserved all the appreciation because he “gave so much to this city.”
