The Dallas Mavericks suffered a loss to the Golden State Warriors in a tightly contested match which saw Luka Doncic fire shots at the referee. The Warriors took a late three-point lead thanks to Stephen Curry, and Luka felt he was fouled by Draymond Green while attempting a shot under the rim. Draymond had already used his arm to obstruct Luka earlier in the quarter, which frustrated Doncic and prompted him to make this gesture.

The no-call eventually led to the end of the game as Golden State had the ball with 1.7 seconds to go and a three-point lead. Luka Doncic is known for getting vocal during a lot of games, and he took out his frustration on the referees last night. Doncic was playing in his first game since 9th March and showed no signs of slowing down by dropping 30 points and 13 assists.

The Golden State Warriors have been terrible on the road this season but have managed to win their last two road games. Fans on Twitter joked that the Warriors have started ‘buying’ wins on the road. Some fans blamed Luka for complaining about the foul, as Doncic and Wood had more free throws than the entire Warriors team combined. Doncic might have had reason to be salty towards the referees, but the Mavericks have lost yet another game and slipped to the 9th seed.

Doncic missed the last five games for Dallas, which saw them slump from the 6th seed to the 9th seed. The Western Conference is incredibly tight as the regular season ends with just two games separating the 6th and 11th seeds. The Mavericks are now 1-2 against Golden State this season, and in case the season comes down to a tiebreaker, the Warriors would be in a better position.

Luka Doncic had an edgy first game back as he shot just 2/10 from three-point range and was finding his feet after being out for a while. Doncic must bring out his pre-all-star break form to carry the Mavericks into a guaranteed playoff spot. They will face the Los Angeles Lakers in a win – or go home game.

The Mavericks made the Conference Finals in 2022 and would have expected a home seed this season after their dominant run last year. However, things have not gone to plan, with Luka carrying the Mavericks averaging shooting and lack of defense during the first half of the season. Since adding Kyrie Irving in February, Dallas has shown signs of being contenders when Luka and Kyrie are fired. The Mavericks will hope this fire will burn even brighter if they make the playoffs.
