Phoenix Suns fans will have to wait a little longer to see Kevin Durant make his highly anticipated home debut with the team. The forward will sit out Wednesday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to left ankle soreness, the team announced just minutes before tip-off.
Durant’s absence comes after a scary moment during pregame warmups, where he slipped on the floor and landed on his right foot before falling to the ground. Despite getting up on his own and continuing his workout for a few more minutes, the slip appears to have caused the soreness in his ankle that will keep him out of the game.
In Durant’s place, forward Torrey Craig will start for the Suns. It’s a disappointing turn of events for Suns fans who were eagerly anticipating Durant’s home debut. In just three games with the team, he has already been a major contributor, averaging 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on impressive shooting percentages of 69 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Durant’s absence will be felt on the court, especially after his dominant performance in the Suns’ win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. In that game, he played 40 minutes and scored 37 points on 12-of-17 shooting, adding seven rebounds and three assists to his impressive stat line.
While Suns fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Durant in action at home, the team will look to pick up a win without their star forward on Wednesday night.
