WATCH: LeBron James make crowd-crashing efforts to save a loose ball during Lakers embarrassing loss against Pelicans
LeBron James dives into the crowd to save the ball as the Lakers go down against the Pelicans

LeBron James needed 61 points to break the all-time scoring record of Kareem Abdul Jabbar against the Pelicans on Saturday. While no one expected the Lakers star to deliver 61 points against the Zion Williamson-less side. They did expect a powerful performance from the 38-year-old veteran and for the most bit, he performed beyond fans’ expectations. James ended with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists after 40 minutes of play. The league’s all-time scoring record is currently only 36 points away from him.
The Lakers led the Pelicans for the majority of the game, but a dismal, 20-point fourth quarter caused them to lose another tight game. With the win, New Orleans ended their losing streak of 10 games. Former Lakers star Brandon Ingram scored a game-high 35 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists during his 32 mins of play. Lakers on the other hand were led by Anthony Davis who scored 34 points and recorded 14 rebounds and 3 assists in his 38 minutes of game time. During the game, James was seen shoving into the crowd to save the ball from going out of bounds. It is commendable given his age.
With their latest loss, the Lakers now stand 13th in the Western Conference with a 25-29 record. Midway into the season and with the all-star game approaching they can still make it to the playoffs. For this to happen they can make a few important trades such as the one which will make Kyrie Irving a Laker and reunite him with James. With the deadline approaching fast, it’s now or never for the Lakers.

Can LeBron James and the Lakers make it to the playoffs this season

Five days remain until the trade deadline, and Kyrie Irving has already told the Brooklyn Nets that he wants to leave the side. His assistance might help the Lakers go to the postseason and even have a chance to win the championship this year for LeBron James. James and Irving have worked in the past as well leading the Cavaliers to a championship during the 2016-17 season.
However, acquiring Irving would surely come at a cost. Given that clubs like the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, and LA Clippers are all contemplating trade offers for Irving, the Lakers would have to include both their 2027 and 2029 first-round drafts in the deal for the Brooklyn Point Guard. With the combined prowess of Irving James and Davis, the Lakers would be deadly in the West.
