Gradey Dick is not just a sharpshooter on the basketball court, but also a skilled quarterback on the gridiron. The Toronto Raptors rookie, who was picked 13th overall in the 2023 NBA draft, flaunted his football prowess in a video he shared on his Instagram story.
The clip featured Dick throwing a long pass to his fellow Raptors rookie Markquis Nowell, who made a smooth catch. Dick was heard saying, “Tom Gradey, check it out,” in the video. He was obviously comparing himself to Tom Brady, the legendary New England Patriots quarterback who has won seven Super Bowls.
Dick’s football skills might have impressed some NFL fans, who could wonder if he has any potential in their sport. But Dick is fully focused on basketball and has no plans to switch careers.
Dick, who played one season at Kansas, is one of the best shooters in his draft class. He averaged 14.1 points and shot 40.3 percent from beyond the arc for the Jayhawks. He also earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors and was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Dick is excited to be a part of the Raptors, who are hoping to return to the playoffs after missing out last season. He feels like he “hit the jackpot” by joining the team, as he has received a warm welcome from the fans and the organization.
Dick is expected to make an immediate impact on the Raptors, who ranked near the bottom of the league in three-point percentage last season. He will provide some much-needed shooting and scoring for the team, as well as some versatility and athleticism on defense.
He will join a young and talented core that includes Fred VanVleet, O.G. Anunoby, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, and Jakob Poeltl. He will also learn from their new head coach Darko Rajaković, who is known for his innovative and creative approach to the game.
