Shai Gilgeous Alexander’s outstanding play gave the Oklahoma City Thunder a dramatic 124-120 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. The guard led the Thunder to their fifth straight home victory and seventh victory in their past nine games with 40 points, including 16 free throws.

The Suns had taken a 15-point lead in the first half and were up by 12 at halftime. However, a fourth-quarter surge from the Thunder, sparked by a dominant defensive performance, saw them take control of the game. Luguentz Dort’s 3-pointer and an alley-oop pass from Gilgeous-Alexander to Josh Giddey kept the Thunder’s momentum going, and they eventually built a 10-point lead with less than three minutes remaining.

Phoenix fought back with an 11-3 run, and Devin Booker’s 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds on the clock cut the deficit to two points. However, Dort sealed the game with two free throws, leaving the Suns to suffer their fourth defeat in five games.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s stunning display was complemented by Aaron Wiggins, who came off the bench to score seven points and two steals in the final quarter. Deandre Ayton, Phoenix’s starting centre, was absent due to a hip contusion and couldn’t play.

The Thunder will be buoyed by their impressive form, which has seen them climb to 35-36 for the season. The Suns, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back as they prepare to face the Thunder again on April 2. With just 11 games remaining in the regular season, they will need to find form quickly if they are to secure a playoff spot.
