The Miami Heat were the #1 seed in the East last season but things have not gone according to plan in South Beach this year. Jimmy Butler took to the post-game interview to say, “We lost. I’m tired of losing… I don’t think anybody in here wants to lose, but we’ve gotta figure this out very, very quickly.” The Miami Heat are currently the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference which is not even a guaranteed playoff spot.
Miami lost a close game against the struggling Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night 108-103. When asked about what went wrong, Butler simply said, “We not getting stops, shots not going in and it’s all downhill from there“. Butler scored 28 points in a valiant effort to bring Miami back from a 20-point deficit but it was not enough. “I don’t care if we were down by 30, lose by 30, or lose by one. We lost,” added Butler.
The Miami Heat have 21 games left this season to secure a playoff spot and are still 2.5 games behind the 6 seed. Miami have been solid defensively all season and have the 4th best defensive rating in the NBA. However, they have not been able to figure out their offense as they have the third-worst offensive rating in the league. Miami have a growing problem under the basket and with the postseason just two months away, they need to sort this out.

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat’s possible postseason matchups
The Miami Heat are struggling right now and the top of the East seems like a distant memory. Jimmy Butler has gone all the way to the NBA finals only to be swept in the first round in the last 3 years with the Miami Heat. Miami have a first-round sweep sandwiched between two trips to the conference finals which makes this season less surprising.
As it stands, Miami would face the Atlanta Hawks in the play-in tournament. Miami beat the Hawks in 5 games in the first round of the 2022 Playoffs which saw Trae Young’s worst performance as a Hawk yet. Miami then went on to lose in Game 7 against Boston in the conference finals that season. The Heat have shown glimpses of brilliance this season with Tyler Herro balling out.
If Miami do manage to capture the 7th seed, they will have to go up against the Milwaukee Bucks as it stands. The Bucks are currently the most in-form team in the NBA with a 13-game win streak. Giannis Antetokounmpo is playing at a top-tier level this season and has experience sweeping Miami in the playoffs as well. Butler beat Giannis and the Bucks in the second round to make the finals in 2020 but lost to LA.
