Mikey Williams, a former standout basketball player at San Ysidro High School, has found himself in legal trouble after a late-night incident in April resulted in his arrest. He is facing six felony charges for allegedly discharging a firearm at a vehicle.
As per the publicly available case details, the alleged incident involving Williams occurred at his residence, a property valued at $1.2 million located in Jamul. The case report indicates that there were five passengers inside the vehicle at the time when Williams discharged the firearm. Thankfully, none of the occupants sustained any injuries. Currently, the case appears to be progressing towards a potential trial, and if convicted, Williams could potentially face a sentence of up to 28 years in jail.
During Mikey Williams’ court proceedings, numerous witnesses, including his friends, provided their testimonies regarding the late-night incident on March 27. Despite the testimony from multiple individuals, no concrete evidence was presented that directly linked Williams to the act of discharging a firearm at the vehicle.
The incident unfolded when a high school friend of Mikey Williams, who happened to be dating JJ Taylor, his Memphis teammate, paid a visit. Taylor was sharing the residence with Williams and was also dedicated to playing for the University of Memphis. It appears that Mikey became displeased with the presence of Taylor’s girlfriend and was reportedly seen with a firearm, which led to the subsequent incident.
In a ruling it was said that Williams wasn’t seen unloading the firearm but was seen with one when he threatened them all at the scene. It was said, “If someone had seen Mr. Williams fire the gun, that would be direct evidence of the gun having been fired, as opposed to what we have in this case, which is circumstantial evidence, I think the circumstantial evidence certainly suggests that he was the individual who had the firearm on that occasion based on the timeline described by the witnesses, and the bullets rang out shortly thereafter.“
The 6’3 guard, Mikey Williams, has taken a break to deal with his legal issues before returning to the team. The University of Memphis stated that he cannot use their facilities until his trial concludes. Mikey currently faces a possible 28-year prison sentence for six felony counts as the trial continues.
