“Never spit on a kid, never had unpaid debt” – When LeBron James BRUTALLY DESTROYED Charles Barkley for ‘hating’

Charles Barkley and LeBron James

In January 2017, when LeBron James was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he found himself in a heated exchange with Charles Barkley, the 11-time NBA All-Star turned TNT analyst. Barkley had made comments suggesting that James was being “whiny” in urging the Cavaliers organization to upgrade the roster before the playoffs.

James, who wasn’t afraid of conflict, responded by calling Barkley a “hater” and questioning the credibility of his opinions. During an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James expressed his frustration with Barkley’s comments, questioning why they should be considered credible simply because Barkley was on television.

I’m not going to let him disrespect my legacy like that,” James said. “I’m not the one who threw somebody through a window. I never spit on a kid. I never had unpaid debt in Las Vegas. I never said, ‘I’m not a role model.’ I never showed up to All-Star Weekend on Sunday because I was in Vegas all weekend partying.”

James added, “All I’ve done for my entire career is represent the NBA the right way. Fourteen years, never got in trouble. Respected the game. Print that.”

The Cavaliers star also took the opportunity to point out the lack of negative stories surrounding himself throughout his career, implying that Barkley had no grounds to damage his legacy.

Despite James’ strong response, Barkley stayed to his stance during a radio appearance on ESPN Chicago‘s Waddle & Silvy. Barkley admitted that some of what James had said was true, but he stood by his initial criticism, suggesting that he had no problem with James’ response.

“I have no problem with what [James] said..some of it was true..I stick by what I said,” he said.

The exchange between LeBron James and Charles Barkley exemplified the clash of perspectives regarding James’ legacy. While James defended his track record and portrayed himself as a responsible ambassador for the NBA, Barkley maintained his critique, and highlighted visible flaws in James’ approach to the game.
