“When you compete against LeBron everyone gets mad” – Stephen Jackson CALLS OUT Grizzlies for ‘bulls**t’ treatment with Dillon Brooks

The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly decided not to re-sign Dillon Brooks “under any circumstances” following a rough 2022-23 NBA season. Brooks has become one of the most controversial players in the league, with numerous incidents and altercations contributing to his reputation.

While some may view the Grizzlies’ decision as an obvious one, others disagree. Stephen Jackson, a former NBA player and current co-host of I AM ATHLETE’s “Paper Route” podcast, recently slammed the Grizzlies for their handling of the situation.

“I think it’s bullsh*t,” Jackson said. “I guess if you offend LeBron, everybody gets mad. I guess when you compete against LeBron, everybody gets mad. Yeah, he got a chip on his shoulder; yeah, he may say some things, he ain’t the first player to do that. Ron Artest did it; I did it; Draymond does it. I don’t understand.”

He added: “I guess he poked the wrong bear, but I don’t agree with that sh*t. I don’t agree with them coming out and saying that sh*t. I’ve been in those shoes where people try to demean your character and say these certain things about you, and they don’t understand that these guys just like playing the game a certain way,”

While Brooks may have a controversial reputation, there is no denying his value as a player. He brought a significant amount of energy and grit to the Grizzlies’ defense while also scoring over 14 points per game alongside high-level scorers Desmond Bane and Ja Morant.

Without Brooks, it remains to be seen whether the Grizzlies would have been in the position they were in this season. While he may not be an amazing player, he is still a valuable piece to any team.

The Grizzlies’ decision not to re-sign Brooks has raised questions about the importance of a player’s reputation versus their on-court performance. While it is understandable that teams may want to distance themselves from a player with a controversial reputation, it is important to consider the value that player brings to the team.

It remains to be seen where Dillon Brooks will end up next season, but one thing is clear: his talent and energy on the court cannot be denied. Whether or not a team is willing to take a chance on his controversial reputation remains to be seen.
