Amelia Vega – other successful side of Al Horford’s life
Al Horford and his wife Amelia Vega tied the knot 10 years back on 24th December 2011. Model by profession, Amelia is an actress, author, beauty queen, and singer. There are no surprises that 2003 Miss Universe winner Amelia started winning titles from city level to national level before crowed with the ultimate award.
November 7, 1984 born Vega won the prestigious award at the age of 18 in Panama. Always smiling Amelia stand 6 ft tall. Winning title in 2003, Amelia became famous – while Horford was not even drafted to the league. Obviously with hefty prize money and fame, she beat her husband to bank riches. But importantly the Dominic star became the youngest to win Miss Universe title.
Music lover Vega also tried her hand at a music and acting career. Back in 2010, she released her first single entitled “Pasa Un Segundito” . The album was success and added another jewel to her crown. A year after that success, encouraged Amelia released another song, an environmental anthem called “Smog”. And at the yearend she won over Al Horford’s heart and became Mrs.

Drafted in 2007 by Atlanta Hawks, Horford announced himself to the world. In 2008, Horford and Amelia started seeing each other. They dated for 2 years and soon in 2011 they decided to take step further by tying knot.
The wedding itself had little bump as there was no mode of transportation to bring Horford’s wife to the venue. But family friend and Dominican icon David Ortiz came to the rescue. Horford recalled the incidence “We’re down there, and I realize I’m supposed to get a limo for [my wife], to pick her up and take her to where we’re getting married. And then, obviously being in the Dominican Republic, things never go how they’re supposed to. So three hours before the wedding, we find out that there’s no limo.”
On the Christmas eve, David became their Santa and helped his friend in need – interestingly he was not part of the wedding, neither was he in the country to help. But he sent his Limo to bring Bride to be Amelia to the venue, and things smoothen out after that.
The loving couple started family in 2015, when they had their 1st boy – named Ean. Their second child Alia, their eldest daughter, was born the following year. The Family tree began to flourish as they added next 2 kids in 2018. The couple had their most recent addition to their family, a lovely daughter named Nova, back in January of 2021.
