Who is Rachel Nichols? Why did ESPN fire her?

Rachel Nichols was one of the most recent controversial people to emerge in the sports world. But for a good period of time, she was widely admired for her work in front of the camera covering several different leagues across the United States including the Olympics.

She began her journalistic career in 2004 with ESPN where she hosted a multitude of shows. She was the lead host of SportsCenter and many other NFL as well as NBA telecasts. In 2013, she left ESPN to become an anchor on CNN as well as Turner Sports Media.
In 2016, she made her return to ESPN an became a regular on their broadcasts. She was most notable for her work on The Jump and NBA Countdown. Rachel Nichols also had the opportunity to cover the NBA Bubble Games that took place in 2020 during the peak of the pandemic.
Rachel Nichols gets FIRED from ESPN after controversial remarks on her colleague

Unfortunately, her run with ESPN came to an end recently following a very controversial audio tape which was revealed. Rachel Nichols was a massive part of the NBA coverage during the bubble. She was naturally inclined to believe she deserved to host the NBA Finals.
The audio tapes revealed Nichols speaking against her colleague Maria Taylor who was chosen over her to host the finals. Nichols claimed that Taylor was chosen solely because ESPN felt “pressured” to show diversity. This surfaced during the terrible protests that took place during George Floyd’s death.
She was eventually removed from her posting on ESPN as no group supports racist remarks or anything that hints the slightest bit of it. She recently landed a new contract with Showtime as a producer and host.
