“Everyone knows he’s not winning a championship without Steph” Rival NBA GM reveals reason why Kevin Durant will not be acquired by a new team
Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant are in news since their exit from the 2022 playoffs. Being one of the best players on the planet, Durant was supposed to command the largest trade package in NBA history ever since he requested his way out in June 2022. Instead, weeks after making the same, the Slim Reaper is still in the Brooklyn’s rank. With just weeks away from training camps, KD trade rumors are cooling off and as per one NBA GM, not many teams are interested in acquiring Kevin for their franchise.
Interestingly it is not because of “high trade value” but league rivals are considering KD ineffective without Stephen Curry. Kevin Durant won back-to-back NBA titles with Steph and could have completed a three-peat had he not been injured in 2019. It would be a major blow to his legacy and may have to honor the contract with the Nets.
If the words of one rival GM are to be believed, there is a lot of doubt that Durant can even win another title without the help of Curry and the Warriors. “Everyone pretty much knows KD probably isn’t winning any titles, not without Steph, which is why no one wants to mortgage the farm for him.”
It’s a turn nobody saw coming at the start of free agency, and the Nets would have mixed feelings over the same. The Nets will be happy to have KD playing in Black and White, but looking at the leagues’ perception of their star player, they might need to provide a huge support cast around Durant.
Kevin Durant needs to deliver the title without the Warriors to shut the doubters
Brooklyn Nets signed 2-time NBA Champion Kevin Durant in 2019. His value was very high with him fresh off the Championship runs. Sadly his 3-season tenure at Brooklyn Nets has been nothing but disappointment for the star. And now after requesting a trade away from the current franchise he has listed the Suns and Heat as his preferred destinations. But both teams would have to gut their depth to land him. For a player like Durant, some might think it’s worth it.

4-time scoring Champion Durant played a very important role in all of his franchises. At OKC, he was the Centerpiece of their offensive and defensive plays. But after failing to make a huge run in postseasons Durant parted ways with Oklahoma City Thunders and signed with one of the dynasty franchises – The golden state Warriors.
The collaboration of the talented team and the gifted player clicked right away as the Warriors dominated the league for 3 consecutive seasons and won 2 back-to-back Championships demolishing the opposition. But after leaving Golden State Warriors he went back to OKC days but in a different franchise.
It led to the general perception of his inability to win titles without a strong team like the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, the former MVP also doesn’t have any concrete stats to refute the conception. Despite all the talent KD has, and the impact he makes on the court, he hasn’t shown that he can win a championship on his own, outside of Steph Curry’s umbrella.
He is under contract for four years and the franchise has all rights to accept or reject any offer for KD. As per Adrian Wojnarowski on Durant’s value in the trade market. “Brooklyn is trying to trade Kevin Durant and you look at the marketplace, five first-round picks for Rudy Gobert or whatever Donovan Mitchell might fetch. I think the hard part for teams is ‘Maybe we can get Kevin Durant in a trade but will we have enough to win a championship?'”
Many reports suggest that only Miami Heat is trying hard to get KD on their roaster else 2-time Finals MVP will be headed back to Brooklyn next season whether he likes it or not. The situation is the same for Kyrie Irving, who has earned even less trade interest than his co-star. Nets might get a chance to make a push for their 1st ever championship with the Durant-Irving-Simmons trio playing first time together.
2023 will be Durant’s best chance to win the title with all the confirmed pieces around him at the Nets. He needs to deliver a Championship for the franchise and silence all the doubters.
