Brittney Griner has only been under immense struggle over the last few months of her life. 197 days into her case and the former Olympian was announced 10 years in prison for pleading guilty for being under possession of illegal substances. This unfortunately meant an extension of her struggle in Russian.

Jonquel Jones, player of the Connecticut Sun recently opened up about the situation within the WNBA community and how they feel about the Phoenix Mercury player’s sentencing. She said, “Her not being with us, her not being with her team and the W.N.B.A., her family not being able to see her. Just her being over there and understanding that it could have easily been somebody else on our team and just kind of feeling the weight of that. When you’re so close to that person it’s a little bit different.”

Jones, like her co-star also played with the Russian basketball clubs to fulfil her relatively less WNBA paycheck. Similarly, Brittney Griner was also on her way to Russia to play for the UMMC Yekaterinburg team. Unfortunately, her presence would be served behind the jail cell where she was help in detention by the Russian authorities.

Jones recently signed a deal with Cukurova in Mersin, Turkey. Even other WNBA stars like Chelsea Gray, Briann January as well as Breanna Stewart and Emma Meessemam who played for th Yekaterinburg have now shifted their talents to other teams.
