Detroit Piston, with all the respect and praise they get, are, in fact, the worst team this season. And if those words sound harsh, their record would give one a fair idea as to why beating them isn’t a huge deal. With 40 losses already, their season seems pretty much over. But a recent miracle happened that has dragged the NFL’s Detroit Lions into the mix.
The Detroit Pistons hosted the Oklahoma City Thunders at Little Caesars Arena. OKC were the favorite going into this game, given their solid record this season. But, like the NBA’s knack for throwing surprises, it was the struggling home side who got the win, startling a lot of fan bases. Even the NFL ones.
The Pistons won the game 120-104 and their win was a shock to many. The so-called “Worst Team” beating an in-form side was not just any story. Sticking to the same city but different sports, the Detroit Lions from the NFL, who have had a brilliant run of form, faced a 34-31 defeat that very day. And it wasn’t just a normal league game, but rather, an NFL Conference Championships final against the San Francisco 49ers.
While it was a peculiar day for the two respective sports in the city, creative and humourous minds came together that day making sure the internet was reminded of the so-called strange phenomenon. No one from the city would have bet on the outcome or scores of the two matches of the two different sports. And some even commented, “Sacrificed NFC Championship for regular season win”.
The Pistons’ mighty performance shocks Detroit
The win and the loss shocked the fans of both sports in the city. After both the results were out, fans couldn’t help but give their thoughts on it. Some even suggested why did it happen. There were a plethora of questions and answers to the recent results of both the teams from Detroit.
But for the sporting community, it was yet another week for a new topic of discussion.
The unpredictable nature of the NBA and NFL has done it again. Dividing fanbases and thoughts, Detroit has had an interesting start to the week. And as disappointing as it sounds for the NFL team, the NBA’s Pistons can hope that their next win isn’t too far away.
