“No one wants to play for that poverty franchise” – Zach LaVine REJECTS trade to Knicks, NBA Twitter shows no mercy in roasting franchise

Zach Lavine has been a solid player for the Bulls in his 6 years with the franchise

“No one wants to play for that poverty franchise” – Zach LaVine REJECTS trade to Knicks, NBA Twitter shows no mercy in roasting franchise

Lavine's name has popped up in multiple trade conversations

Zach Lavine was drafted 13th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2014. After spending 3 years with the Wolves and establishing himself as a great scorer and winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2 years in a row, Lavine was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2017. It was in Chicago where Lavine found his true home and took his game to another level.

His improvement in play led to Lavine being named as a reserve in the 2021 and 2022 NBA All-Star games. On July 7, 2021, Lavine signed a new 5-year max contract with the Bulls worth $215 million. After a great start to the 2012-22 season where the Bulls raced to a 27-13 record, best for 1st in the East, the team would lose their point guard Lonzo Ball to a serious injury. The Bulls would reach the playoffs where they were eliminated by reigning champions Milwaukee Bucks in 5 games. The 2022-23 season was another major disappointment as the Bulls ended the season below the .500 mark with a 40-42 record and were eliminated in the play-in game by the Miami Heat.

We are barely 2 weeks into the off-season and teams have already started making big moves to improve their rosters. Not surprisingly, the Bulls are reportedly gauging interest in Lavine which they value highly and is their biggest trade asset. According to a source, the Bulls would be keen on getting a good young player, multiple first-round picks and salary filler if they do decide to trade Lavine eventually.

One team that Lavine and his camp would want to stay away from is the New York Knicks, as reported by New York Daily News’ Stefan Bondy. The Knicks are strapped with future draft assets and might want to get involved in a trade scenario. However, Lavine’s camp would not be interested in pursuing things further considering the Knicks have had a reputation around the league for favoring clients of CAA. Some notable big names that are represented by CAA are Devin Booker, Paul George, Donovan Mitchell, Chris Paul, Zion Williamson and Karl-Anthony Towns among others.

Zavine is a key piece for the Bulls going forward and instead of thinking of trading him, they could possibly work more on getting their Big 3 that include him, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic on the same page as they haven’t really gelled well together so far.

If they can make it work and stay healthy, the Bulls can make a deep playoff run next season.
