The Warriors-Lakers matchup on Thursday night was a must-watch game for NBA fans, but there was another reason why the eyes of the basketball world were on the Chase Center. Zendaya, the Emmy-winning actress and star of Euphoria and Spider-Man: No Way Home, was in attendance, sitting courtside with her co-star and alleged boyfriend Tom Holland. Zendaya’s appearance at the game had a special significance for Warriors guard Jordan Poole, who had once tried to slide into her DMs on Instagram.
In 2019, Poole commented on a post by actress Laura Harrier, who had shared some photos with Zendaya. Poole wrote “@zendaya @klaythompson double date?,” hoping to use his connection with his teammate Klay Thompson to score a date with the Hollywood starlet.
Poole’s personality also gave birth to a meme known as the Jordan Poole Effect or Jordan Poole Baddies, which suggests that Poole plays better when there are attractive women (or baddies) watching him play. The meme originated from a YouTube video by courtsideplug, who edited a clip of Poole looking at two women in the audience and then scoring several baskets. However, Zendaya’s presence did not seem to have a positive effect on Poole’s performance on Thursday night. He finished with only six points on 3-of-6 shooting with three rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes.
