Zion Williamson‘s stint with the New Orleans Pelicans has been a rollercoaster ride. Injuries have kept him off the court for the majority of his career. However, this offseason, the former number-one overall pick’s problem, has been off-the-court controversies. Amid all of this, the New Orleans Pelicans have been looking at things to improve their talented young team. This has led to them looking at the top picks in the 2023 draft as reported by NBA Insider Shams Charania.
According to Charania, the Pels are looking at the second or third pick in this year’s draft to compete in the Western Conference. However, to execute the trade, the Pels might have to think of options to trade as they only have a fourteenth overall pick, and acquiring a high lottery pick with that alone would not be easy. This would lead to them having to move one of their stars to either the Charlotte Hornets or the Portland Trail Blazers, the teams who own the second and third pick, respectively.
Zion Williamson has averaged 26 PPG and 7 RPG in his career with the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite his injuries, the team has trusted him and even offered the young sensation a rookie max extension last offseason. Trading him away for a rookie would certainly not be a move that will help them become contenders, but they will certainly look at other options they can offer to execute a deal.
Fans react to Zion Williamson’s Pelicans’ big news ahead of the draft
Fans have been recently trolling Zion Williamson due to all the controversy surrounding him and adult actress Moriah Mills. He was a highly touted player coming out of the draft, but his battle with injuries and recent off-the-court problems have invited a lot of questions. The news of the Pelicans looking for a second or third pick has led to him now being involved in trade scenarios.
One fan said, “If you can get Scoot for Zion that’s a steal. People need to stop with the Zion hype.” Here are some of the other fan reactions.
A common consensus among the fans was that the Pelicans should consider trading Zion Williamson if they are able to get something good in return. The organization has entrusted a lot of hope and given the player a lot of time. He definitely has shown a lot of talent, but the team’s goal is to eventually win it all and they will look to do anything to achieve that. If the Pels believe that they have an offer that is good enough to trade Zion for, they will make it happen, but until that happens, Williamson will be a mainstay in New Orleans.
