Zion Williamson, the first pick of the 2019 NBA draft, has been a dominant force in the NBA when he is available. Williamson’s health has been the primary concern for the New Orleans Pelicans. Williamson has played 114 NBA games since entering the NBA in the 2019-2020 season.
His weight seems to be at fault for keeping him off the floor, dealing with injuries. Williamson stands at 6’6″ with a weight of 284 lbs. ESPN’s Tim McMahon has reported that Zion’s weight touched 330 lbs, which puts him among the heaviest players in the history of the NBA.
Hall of Fame Tight End Shannon Sharpe recently had ESPN’s Steven A. Smith on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast. Sharpe said, “he’s [Zion] just too big.” “If Zion was in New York… we’d see a more dedicated Zion,” Stephen A. said. Sharpe and Smith questioned Zion’s dedication to his conditioning. Zion has already missed an entire season with injury and only suited up for 29 games in the 2022-2023 season.

Zion Williamson’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans
Zion Williamson’s incredible college career at Duke University resulted in his name being called first at the NBA draft. Zion’s NBA career, on the other hand, has been tumultuous and spotted with controversy. The New York Knicks drafted Zion’s Duke teammate RJ Barrett, and recruited Zion to the Knicks. The Pelicans are not all in on Zion and have considered trading him in the past. A small market team like the New Orleans Pelicans is perhaps not what Zion has in mind going forward.
Zion’s weight has also reportedly affected his recovery from his foot injury. He is still yet to play in an NBA postseason game, although the Pelicans made the playoffs in the 2021-2022 season. The Phoenix Suns defeated the Pelicans in six games. Despite having former All-Star CJ McCollum and rising star Brandon Ingram, Williamson seems to be looking for other teams to play for.
The Knicks are fresh off an Eastern Conference semi-final appearance ending in a loss to the Miami Heat. For the Knicks to obtain Williamson, they would have to trade a massive number of assets, which may include Knicks stars Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and a myriad of future picks.
