“Not enough energy man, not enough urgency”: Malik Monk drops truth bombs on Lakers’ on-going struggles without LeBron James
Malik Monk
Malik Monk this offseason parted ways with Charlotte Hornets and joined the Los Angeles Lakers as he is a part of LeBron’s hand-picked roster. With the Los Angeles Lakers, Malik Monk has been a completely different player who can be trusted anytime and anywhere amid the game as we spectate him make differences on both ends. Starting as a forward for the team most of the time he lives up to the expectations and delivers the role he plays.
Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers were hosted by the Atlanta Hawks at State-Farm Arena. The game was a close contested and head-to-head match-up as entering the fourth quarter the Los Angeles Lakers were leading by 11 points but the final result favors the Atlanta Hawks. The final box score is 129-121 and Atlanta adds another win to their record as the Lakers had no answer for Trae Young’s (5 rebounds, 12 assists and 36 points) offensive chain.
The Los Angeles Lakers are currently ranked as the ninth seed in the western conference with the record of 24 wins and 27 losses at .471. On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks are picking up pace and are on a seven-game winning streak while ranked tenth in the eastern conference with the record of 24 wins and 25 losses at .490 as Trae carries and runs the offensive end.
One of the important pieces in the Lakers’ struggles is them being shorthanded as their leader LeBron James is sidelined due to a knee injury. Missing LeBron and again being on the losing side makes it very clear that Bron carried the team all-time as we saw him putting up MVP calibre performances while receiving no help from the supporting cast. Malik Monk after dropping a season-high in the loss against the Hawks was brutally honest about the team and their struggles as he took on it at the post-game interview.

Malik Monk on Los Angeles Lakers’ struggles
Malik Monk dropped a season-high 33 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists stat-line but still ended up on the losing side. As again the team was lacking behind in chemistry and pace while also not playing well on the defensive end. At the post-game, Malik appreciated the Hawks for not really doing any major changes to the lineup but still getting the pressure built and winning it all. He also added a word or two on his performance, the grind he is going through as the reporters asked. Further replying on what he has seen the team go through on the overall road trip he quoted: “Not enough energy man, not enough urgency on both the ends. We didn’t respond the way we are supposed to. When teams hit us in the mouth we were supposed to hit em back and keep our poison. That’s what we didn’t do.”
Further, answering to a reporter who questioned about the changing line-ups of Lakers due to injuries. Monk added: “Definitely, man that happens in basketball. You never know besides this COVID-19 thing you never know who’s gonna get hurt, who’s gonna be out and family issues. So we have been battling it all the year man. But we don’t have a resolution yet we don’t have it yet. That’s all we struggling with the whole season. We know what we gotta do and we keep saying the same thing…”
Malik Monk did his part today but missing LeBron just changes the whole story as he has been carrying the squad on his shoulders for the past months. The Los Angeles Lakers soon have to improve or make major changes as the trade deadline and play-offs near. The team must work on their defensive end and add some pace to the game with better team chemistry, if they want to have a good long run in the playoffs this season.
