“One guy gonna have to take a backseat”: Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal discuss the pros and cons to James Harden to Sixers

Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal are the two most honest analysts around the league as they are afraid of none and always welcome controversies. This season the trade deadline has been the most entertaining one compared to many past seasons as the Ben Simmons saga at Philadelphia finally came to an end. Since James Harden forced a trade to get out of Brooklyn Nets and play alongside Joel Embiid at Philadelphia 76ers.

In exchange for James Harden, Brooklyn Nets acquired Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two future first-round picks from the Philadelphia 76ers. Many find Brooklyn Nets winning the trade and many find the Philadelphia 76ers winning it. Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are some of those many as they discussed the pros and cons of James Harden landing in the Philadelphia 76ers and playing alongside Joel Embiid.

The Brooklyn Nets on the other hand though got the most made out of the trade as they added some serious young talents to the roster and gave away a veteran who wasn’t having a good season so far. The addition of Ben Simmons and Andre Drummond will improve their defensive end by a lot as both of them are big enough to give some tough and rough time to the opposition and KD and Kyrie are more than enough for the offensive end.

Discussing the trade and James Harden’s role Charles Barkley quoted: “When you get two great players one guy gonna have to take the back seat to me it’s gonna have to be James. For me, James is going to have be more of the point guard to get those other guys and he is going to have to get Tobias Harris involved. Because now Tobias Harris to me is a big loser. Because he ain’t getting no shots now.” The other caster jumped in here and said James Harden played with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to which Charles defending his point said “For what like a week” and adding on to what role he played in Brooklyn quoted: “But he can’t differ in this situation. He has to be the second-best player for the Sixers…Yes, he does.” Barkley didn’t stop his rally here as discussing James playing great on scoring and passing he said: “We haven’t seen it since Houston.”

Shaquille O’Neal jumping in between defending Harden quoted: “No that’s not true. 200 days ago you were saying James Harden was the best one on one player. Okay, let me finish he had to differ to those other two. Only thing he has to do is give his big guy going, he has to get himself going and then he has to get other guys running on he don’t have something to prove. To me Philadelphia 76ers have won this trade as they gotta guy that can be a dynamic scorer, Chuck said he’s the greatest one on one player. You can have two guys to score a lot of point…it’s been done before. He has to make sure the big guy eats first… Throw to the big man let him eat first when he get tired get him out of trouble then you go to work. James can be 2018 Houston he hasn’t done that cause he was sitting back and he ain’t gotta sit back now they need him to score so I disagree.”

Adding to it the crew also discussed the MVP calibre of his and mentioned how it all ends on a championship run. James Harden and Joel Embiid can really be the finest duo of the league but nothing can be said or confirmed as the duo is yet to step on the court together and showoff their greats.
