“Seeking attention” Kevin Durant controversially calls out NYC Mayor Eric Adams for nonsensical Covid-19 rules
Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant and NYC Mayor Eric Adams isn’t the most ideal combination at this point in time with NYC’s vaccine mandates causing trouble for the Brooklyn Nets, and this is a process that has been going on for the past few months. The vaccine mandate fiasco has cost Kyrie Irving all of the Nets’ home games due to some of the most bizarre rules which are being opposed throughout the world by Basketball fanatics and even politicians who find these rules absurd. Durant has now come out in open to criticize the decisions of the mayor and has told him to change these mandates/correct his mistakes.
Politics and sports don’t really go hand in hand, but since the Covid Pandemic began, there have been a multitude of issues where players have felt the need to call out politicians for their blatant misuse of power, which has led to some of the sport losing its essence many a times. Kyrie Irving was at the center of this controversy as the player denied getting vaccinated at any cost, citing personal interests of not wanting to succumb to any sort of political pressure and therefore, he was barred from playing home games in the Nets’ city of New York.
But now, the tides seem to be turning in favor of the player, who has amassed support from people all around the world including fellow NBA Players like Kevin Durant and LeBron James who feel that he should be allowed to play games in the city of New York.
When Kevin Durant dropped a 50+ point performance against the New York Knicks in Nets’ home arena, Kyrie Irving was there to witness Durant’s magic and was hyped after the game, as the player sat courtside for the entirety of the match, and went to embrace Durant post game, showing a sense of affection between both the players which hasn’t been lost to the Vaccine Mandates.
Let us take a closer look at this incident where Durant fired shots towards NYC’s Mayor Eric Adams.
Kevin Durant doesn’t hold back comments, fires shots aimed at NYC Mayor Eric Adams
Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City was at the receiving end of bashing from a part of Brooklyn Nets’ Big 3, Kevin Durant, who seemed to have had enough of the “Nonsensical” Covid Mandates, which have prevented Kyrie Irving from playing home games. Durant was seemingly angry at mandates which he felt were nothing more than an ego booster and were a blatant misuse of power.
Kevin Durant in the post-game interview after Nets’ game against the Brooklyn Nets was fired up in favor of his long-time teammate, Kyrie Irving, who was there courtside to cheer for him and hug him post-game, but couldn’t play the match and enter the team’s locker room. Durant felt that NYC’s vaccine mandates were nonsensical and were nothing less than a blatant misuse of power by the Mayor, who didn’t agree with Irving’s political preferences.
Durant pointed out that there were people in the arena who were unvaccinated but were touching and lifting things up around the court, specifically, things that regularly come in contact with the players. HE felt offended by the fact that Irving, being one of them, could not play, despite coming in contact with the players and sitting on the bench which was used by the team. Kevin felt that this was just a way for the Mayor to flex his authority, and he challenged the latter to get his “s**t” together.
