Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu are about to create history. Never before on an NBA court has a man and a woman squared off against each other individually. Well, they are about to. And in the segment where both are the best. The NBA has prepared the stage for the two record holders to settle the score. The All-Star 3-Point Challenge will be a one-on-one matchup between the two.
The Golden State Warriors superstar had set the record of 31 during the 2021 contest. Though it has been matched later, no one beat it. But it was the New York Liberty‘s Sabrina Ionescu who romped over Curry’s record. The WNBA superstar scored 37 to raise eyebrows across the basketball universe.
Curry reacted to Ionescu’s record-setting night with a congratulatory tweet. Ionescu replied to Curry asking for a matchup. Conversely, Curry responded with a suggestion to settle the score. This set the stage for what will happen between them. The NBA and the WNBA have collaborated to make this matchup a possibility.
What are the Rules and what Prizes will be given out
The Stephen vs Sabrina All-Star 3-Point Challenge will follow the standard Starry 3-Point Contest rules. The format is as follows:
- 4 ball racks with 4 game balls and 1 “money” ball
- 5th rack will be a special “all money ball” rack. (Curry and Ionescu can decide the spot for this rack).
- 2 Starry Range shots
- Shot values:
Game balls worth 1 point
Money ball worth 2 points
Starry range worth 3 points - Stephen will shoot from the NBA line with NBA basketballs
- Sabrina will shoot from the WNBA line with WNBA basketballs
The NBA and the WNBA have different 3-point lines. The NBA 3-point line measures 22 feet in the corners and 23 feet, 9 inches in other spots. The WNBA 3-point line is set at 20 feet, 6 inches across. Sabrina Ionescu tweeted that she would be shooting from the NBA’s 3-point line. The only difference standing will be the ball. The NBA ball is slightly bigger and heavier than the WNBA ball.
