“Surreal”: Twitter reacts to Bulls’ Ayo Dosunmu banking in a 50-footer at the buzzer against Thunder

With Ayo Dosunmu banking a 50 footer at the buzzer, The Bulls managed to win a close encounter against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a close 111-110 match as they withstood the thunder in the last quarter of the match. With 2.3 seconds remaining on the clock, Oklahoma’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander missed a 3-pointer which would’ve tied the game.

In the absence of their star players Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball due to injuries and DeMar DeRozan resting this match, the Bulls managed to pull this win off due to a great performance by the team overall, with all of their players performing comparatively well keeping in mind the state in which the team had been in the past few matches.

With Nicola Vucevic scoring 26, Zach Lavine (Who was out due to an injury since 14th January) scoring 23 and the rookie Ayo Dosunmu scoring a season high 24 points, the Bulls had a complete performance after their 17-point loss to the Orlando Magic, giving them the confidence, they might’ve needed.

The Bulls’ rookie, a second-round draft-pick, Ayo Dosunmu had a career night, scoring 24 points in his 35 minutes played. Dosunmu also set a Bulls Rookie Record for made shots to start a game with 9.

Dosunmu scored 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting in the first half to help the Bulls take a 58-48 lead at the break. Right at the buzzer of the 3rd quarter, the Bulls’ Point Guard Dosunmu banked a 50ft 3-pointer from just inside half court giving increasing the lead between both the teams which seemed to be trimming shorter and shorter.

Dosunmu had 24 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds before fouling out. He showed his mid-range game, his three-point shooting and his ability to facilitate, and an overall improved game which impressed many.

Dosunmu said ‘‘I felt like I was in the zone offensively and defensively”, ‘‘I definitely have room for improvement. A much-needed win.’

Chicago Bulls Lack of star power against Oklahoma

Even though Zach Lavine re-joined the Bulls squad after a break since 14th Jan, Bulls still lacked the star power with the mid-range monster DeMar DeRozan who scored 42 points without a single 3-pointer attempt, resting, Alex Caruso being out due to a fractured wrist which he conceded in a hard foul against him by Bucks’ Grayson Allen and Lonzo Ball being out due to an upcoming surgery on his left knee, the Bulls’ performance in the match is commendable.

With Lavine being back in the squad, bulls did get the extra fire power they lacked, and even the coach had good things to say about their players.

Mark Daigneault said “I give our guys a lot of credit”, “The ball pressure really amped up and they brought a lot of energy. To go out there and pressure the ball like that was huge for us because it took them out of their offense and didn’t allow them to use their size at the (center position).”

Ayo Dosunmu had an overall performance in the match against Oklahoma. The rookie definitely showed an overall progress in his performance with his mid-range abilities, 3-pointers and the aggressive nature of his play. Giving Dosunmu the starting point guard duties paid well for the team as he made 9 shots giving the bulls a much-needed boost.

Though the match was a close margin victory, the Bulls can definitely show more confidence in their players, including the main man Ayo Dosunmu, who along with having a career night, pushed the team forward in the absence of many big faces.

We now wait and see how the rookie Dosunmu performs in the coming matches, as the expectations for him are going to be high.
