With the 2024 edition of the NBA Draft only a week away, a lot of draft-eligible young players are trying to get as much work in as possible. Workouts help teams to further gauge the talents and make a decision when the time comes for them to call in the pick. However, Bronny James is continuing to decline workout requests from teams. Suggesting that he and his agent, Rich Paul are focused on just a couple of teams.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony was asked about Bronny James‘ draft situation while on NBA Today earlier. The analyst revealed what teams are facing:

NBA teams that I talk to say, they cannot get Bronny James into their building. Teams that are drafting in the late 20s and 30s. The sense among teams is that his agent, Rich Paul, does not want him on a two-way contract.

Givony revealed that the Phoenix Suns have another workout scheduled with James this week. Other than that, he is a lock-in to drop to the Los Angeles Lakers.

James’ agent Rich Paul complicated the situation after he made it clear that his client would not sign 2-way contracts. Considering he will most likely be drafted late in the 2nd round, 2-way contracts are the only deals teams will hand out.

The Phoenix Suns do not have a 2nd round draft pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Therefore, it leaves the Los Angeles Lakers as the only viable destination. Suggesting that LeBron James will play alongside his son next season.

With no other team getting a look at the former USC freshman, everything suggests he has only one chance of making it in the NBA. That is through the 55th pick the Los Angeles Lakers hold. Therefore, LeBron James will fulfill his longtime wish to play alongside his son. This situation bodes well for the James family as they reside in Los Angeles.

In terms of James Jr.’s career, his father’s influence will ensure he gets the best path to develop himself for a long NBA career. This is a necessity considering he will always have to face the scrutiny of being the son of one of the greatest players. However, his skills are something that every NBA team needs. A 3-and-D player with his level of athleticism is a rare combination. More important, is the level of basketball IQ.

The culmination of all these factors will go to ensure that the Los Angeles Lakers do not regret picking James Jr. More importantly, the pick will help them make attempts for NBA titles without having to pay a premium for a starter.
