Shannon Sharpe and Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan and LeBron James are undoubtedly the top two guys in the G.O.A.T debate. While Shannon Sharpe urges the Los Angeles Lakers to take the numero uno spot, his Undisputed co-host, Skip Bayless seems to have got His Airness in the debate. With individual accolades, and their playoffs runs always a matter to discuss, LeBron could be on the verge of repeating Jordan’s feat. But surely, not something the 37-year-old would want, especially in his year-19 where he has been averaging 30 points per game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are placed on the 10th seed in the Western Conference and are just one loss from falling out of the play-in tournament berth courtesy to the rise in form of San Antonio Spurs. With LeBron James on the verge of missing the postseason, speculations have risen and Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless decided to compare it with Jordan’s stint with the Washington Wizards.

Shannon Sharpe was in a conversation with Skip Bayless, who was criticizing LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for their dismal campaign. Sharpe brought up the point of how Jordan was a shadow of his former self at the Wizards and how that didn’t seem to impact his legacy. Jordan’s Washington stint is conveniently forgotten in GOAT discussions involving King James and ‘His Airness.’
Sharpe asked, “The 3 years that he took off, he chose that. He came back knowing he was out of shape, didn’t make the playoffs, and that doesn’t tarnish his legacy?”

Talking particular looking at the stats, Michael Jordan decided to play in the league at the age of 38 for the Wizards, who were by no means favorites, was a bold call from Bulls icon. In his first season with them, he averaged 22.9 points, 5.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds while shooting better than 41%.
That being said, while Michael Jordan was not anywhere close to his peak, he was still among the MVP contenders until the ghost of a serious knee injury stung him. After which Jordan’s Wizards had no hopes of making the postseason, they went 4-8 in the absence of Jordan. In his second season with the Wizards, Jordan played all 82 games, and registered 13 double-doubles, on the backs of 20 points per game.
On the other hand, LeBron James’ numbers even in the 19th season are well aware to every basketball fanatic. Who holds the edge over the other in the GOAT debate, might be an opinion-based outcome. But will King James’ legacy take a blow if the Lakers miss out on the postseason berth?
