“The f*** you got those on for” DeMar DeRozan talks about Kobe Bryant getting mad at him for wearing a pair of Jordan’s
DeMar DeRozan and Kobe Bryant
DeMar DeRozan and Kobe Bryant have played together, a lot many times, and through the way DeRozan says things about Bryant, it should be understood that he was a fan of Kobe and more than that, he showed respect to him in every single way possible, be it on-court or off-court as this conversation between DeRozan and Serge Ibaka highlights. Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest and most respected players in the history of the sport and therefore his death on the 26th of January 2020 was one of the biggest losses to this sport.
DeMar DeRozan was in conversation with Serge Ibaka on an episode of “How Hungry Are You?” which is when this topic about the former and Kobe Bryant cam up after Ibaka asked him a question regarding DeRozan wearing Jordans, which is when the real stuff came up and DeRozan gave an anecdote which perfectly describes Kobe Bryant, his dedication and his desire to prove his points.
While DeRozan was in conversation with Ibaka, he gave us insights on what his relationship with Bryant was like, how much he respected him, how hard he tried to make an impact on his head and how he failed in that effort to prove his own point as Bryant took over the game that night.
Let us take a deeper dive into a snippet of this conversation and take a look at all of the things DeRozan had to say about Bryant and an anecdote involving them both.
DeMar DeRozan was handed an L by Kobe Bryant
DeMar DeRozan is someone who has always respected Kobe Bryant and in fact everyone else in general. But the respect DeRozan had for Bryant was different, even though they played in different teams, DeRozan always wore Kobe’s shoes which is something Bryant knew about, and following that, a funny yet impactful incident happened.

Bryant knew that DeRozan always wore his shoes, and therefore, when he saw DeRozan in Jordans in their match against each other, he didn’t really like it. DeMar’s justification was that no matter what happened, he wouldn’t wear Kobe’s shoes in a match against him, but the fact that Kobe didn’t like it just tells us what a beast he was. The anecdote DeRozan gave, says, “I said I’m not wearing his shoes and playing against him tonight, so I wore Jordans. He said, ‘the fuck you got those on for?” He was mad at me for doing that and he ended up hitting the game-winner on us. Never put another pair of Jordans on.”
Kobe roasted him for not wearing his shoes and then went on to beat his team with the game winner, that just tells you what an animal Kobe Bryant was, and that is exactly why he was respected so much, more than the basketball player that he was, for the man that he was off-court, an idol for billions around the world.
