It has been two years since the passing of the Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. It was a tough pill to swallow, Kobe was just 41-years of age. Along with his, nine other lives were lost that tragic morning including Bryant’s 13-year old daughter, Gianna “Gigi” Bryant. As far as Kobe’s legacy goes, his work on the court shaped many NBA players of today, and his work off the court inspired millions around the world. Many still worry if Kobe’s name will eventually fade away into history.

According to an article published by ESPN, the Estate of Kobe Bryant and Nike had severed the ties after the expiration of the five-year post-retirement deal. The contract had expired back in April 2021, Vanessa Bryant told ESPN. “Kobe and Nike have made some of the most beautiful basketball shoes of all time, worn and adored by fans and athletes in all sports across the globe. It seems fitting that more NBA players wear my husband’s product than any other signature shoe,”  said Vanessa.

The Bryant Estate was apparently unhappy with Nike limiting sales of Kobe’s product after his retirement and stretching it even after his passing. Nike tried to make a lifetime offer as the Estate had hoped for but the contract did not reach the expectations of the Estate. Nike has officially stopped production of all the Los Angeles Laker legend’s branded items even future releases.
