“The organization has something against Cam Reddish” – Kendrick Perkins with a bold accusation against the Atlanta Hawks

Kendrick Perkins advocates for Cam Reddish

Reddish is only 22 years old, currently into the 3rd season of his career. He was the number 10 pick in the 2019 NBA draft. The 2021-22 NBA season is proving to be the best season of his career as Reddish has improved his game and his numbers in almost every metric.

Reddish is averaging 12.7 points per game this season compared to the 11.2 points per game the previous season. His field goal percentage has increased from 36% in the previous season to ~40% this season. His three-point shot has drastically improved as he shot only 26% last season. This season, he is shooting 38% from threes on 4.8 attempts, which is equal to his attempts per game in the previous season too. He has also become a 90% free throw shooter from the earlier 80%. He leads the Hawks in steals this season.

Kendrick Perkins speaks up for Cam Reddish

Kendrick Perkins blamed the organization (Atlanta Hawks) for not giving Reddish enough minutes this season. He accused the Hawks management for holding him back, citing that the talent of Reddish clearly accounts for more minutes.

Perkins is right in this regard. The only Reddish number that has come down this season is his minutes per game. During his not-so-good previous season, Reddish was getting a healthy 28 minutes of playtime. Even in his rookie year, he averaged 26.7 minutes per game. This season, he is averaging a career-low of 24.4 minutes per game. However, Reddish’s thus far short career has been riddled with injuries. He played just 26 games last season and 58 in his rookie year.

Cam Reddish played his college basketball for Duke, which is known to produce some of the best basketball players. Reddish is no different. He is an anomaly at 6’8″ but quick and fast. He has a dribble and crossover game, which needs some improvement. He can shoot threes and is good on the defensive end. He has improved himself on the strength front too, as he seems more comfortable now finishing with contact.

Reddish is one of those players who have every offensive weapon in the bag. Long-range, mid-range, passing, offensive intelligence, dunks, layups and reverse layups, dribble and crossover moves, everything. So, seeing a player with that skillset play 24 minutes per game definitely stings the ones who root for him. And that includes Kendrick Perkins, Jamal Crawford, and even his head coach Nate McMillan.
