Vanessa Bryant on Meek Mill's song "Don't Worry"
The death of the late great Kobe Bryant shook the world one faithful morning in January 2020. Fans were left devastated and lost with what many described as a void that could not be filled. The incident took place in Calabasas, California, as the Mamba and his daughter’s school team were on their way to an event. The helicopter’s hardware had malfunctioned resulting in the unfortunate tragedy over the hills of a quiet neighborhood.
That day had to be one of the toughest times for Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant as she did not only her husband but also her 14-year old daughter, Gianna Bryant. Their daughter was a budding basketball talent herself. She played for the Mamba Sports Academy which her father build and coached as well. The NBA legend was a big supporter of women in sports and promoted the cause for a long while before his death.
Kobe Bryant’s wife calls out Rapper Meek Mill for “insensitive” lyric
Vanessa has been one of Kobe Bryant’s biggest supporters and she was very open about her love for his husband. Losing her husband was one of the most heartbreaking moments as she would admittedly say, “This pain is unimaginable.” Amidst the situation, Vanessa caught eyes on a song written by Rapper Meek Mill, “Don’t Worry”. The lyrics said, “This b**** I’m f***in always tell me that she love me, but she ain’t never showed me. Yeah, and if I ever lack, I’m going out with my chopper, it’s be another Kobe.”
To the lyric into context, Kobe and his daughter have passed in a helicopter crash which immediately caught Vanessa’s attention as she took to social media saying, “Dear @meekmill, find this line extremely insensitive and disrespectful.” Meek Mill would respond to her by apologizing for his unintentional mistake, he said, “I apologized to her in private earlier today not to the public. Nothing I say on my page directed to an internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject.”
Vanessa Bryant continues to battle for her husband
After the death of the LA Lakers great, Kobe Bryant, his wife has had a long time battle with legal authorities over the way they handled the situation on the day of the fatal incident. According to Vanessa, she had learned about Kobe’s death via the internet. She said, “I was holding onto my phone, because obviously I was trying to call my husband back, and all these notifications started popping up on my phone, saying, ‘RIP Kobe. RIP Kobe, RIP Kobe.”
Vanessa would be approached by her family assistant who said to her, “There was an accident and that there were five survivors.” As unfortunate as the news would have already been to the family, Sheriff Alex Villanueva had only broken the news to her when he met the widow in person. Vanessa filed a lawsuit against the county alleging invasion of privacy and claiming that photos of her husband, daughter, and the victims were shared regardless of her request to keep them confidential.
