“They are a great team with or without him” Sixers Center Joel Embiid considers Grizzlies a potential championship threat even without Ja Morant
Ja Morant
The Memphis Grizzlies have been a recent addition to the title talks after having put out excellent performances against some of the league’s best teams. One of the biggest strengths in Ja Morant is putting MVP caliber numbers on a nightly basis.
The team is currently on a three-game win streak and has beaten the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, and Brooklyn Nets, which is quite an impressive feature for a team that was in the play-in tournament last season. They are currently third in the Western Conference with a record of 35 wins and 17 losses.
The Memphis Grizzlies are a team to fear
The Memphis Grizzlies rank fourth in the league for points scored with an average of 112 points per game this season. They are also one of the league’s better defensive teams thanks to the high level of athleticism they bring onto the court. They rank number one in the league for rebounds averaging a team total of 48.3 rebounds per game. Not only that but they also rank first in the NBA in blocks with an average of 6.5 blocks recorded per game.
Ja Morant leads the team in overall player productivity as he averages 26.1 points with 6 rebounds and 6.8 assists with 1.3 steals and 3.3 turnovers per game. He makes 49% from the field and 36.4% from three shooting 76.6% from the line on 6.5 attempts per game.
Desmond Bane has been playing great basketball for the team as he averages 17.8 points with 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 46.8% shooting. He also is a three-point shooting wizard averaging 2.8 made threes on 6.8 attempts per game.
Besides them both, Jaren Jackson Jr. leads the team in blocks with 2.3 recorded per game along with 16.4 points. He also ranks top in the league for blocks per game. Steven Adams who is a screen-setting specialist leads the team in rebounds with 9.4 recorded per game. 76ers center Joel Embiid says Memphis is a hard team to beat
In a recent press conference interview, the Philadelphia 76ers center was asked about the upcoming match against the Memphis Grizzlies and Ja Morant. He responded saying. “They got a pretty good team, obviously, with or without him (Ja Morant). I think that the games that he missed, they were what? Ten and two or something like that?”
The All-Star further went on to say that in order to beat the Grizzlies they would have to play like that and be aggressive while attacking the rim. Both teams will be meeting for the second time this season. The Grizzlies had defeated them the first time without Joel Embiid. They are set to meet on February 1st at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia.
