The Los Angeles Lakers have not been the same team since they were thrown out of the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns in last year’s playoffs. With Anthony Davis getting injured in Game 4, the Suns went onto overturn a 2-1 deficit to knock out the purple and gold army in Game 6 with ease. When AD was questioned about the same with only 15 games to go before the regular season comes to a close, he surely had an animated take.

When asked about the Lakers vs Suns playoffs series in the 2020-21 season, Anthony Davis implied that the ‘only’ reason Suns got away in it, was because he was out injured. Surely a take which could very well piss off marquee stars like Chris Paul and Devin Booker. Some of the heat could be seen in Suns’ latest game against the Lakers, when they completely outplayed them 48-22 in the opening quarter.

What was opinionated by Anthony Davis on Phoenix Suns?

Via Dave McMenamin, “Anthony Davis, asked if his groin injury is the main reason the Lakers didn’t beat the Suns in the playoffs last year, says: ‘It was … We know that. They know that … They got away with one.’”

That being said, one cannot say for certain whether Anthony Davis’ presence would’ve been enough to get the Lakers over the Suns. LeBron James was also dealing with an injury that series, along with a bunch of other players.

Then again, Chris Paul did admit that he played through a shoulder injury in that series.

Nonetheless, that is something in the past. The best way for Anthony Davis and the Lakers to prove this statement is to get all the way to the Finals themselves. Based on how they’ve been playing, it’s looking more and more unlikely that they’ll go deep in the post-season. They could even miss the play-in tournament!

With all teams- LA Clippers, Pelicans, Trail Blazers, Timberwolves among other teams registering constant wins against their name, will LeBron James’ army be able to find a way back? Surely, if there is any time to do is, it is now.
