“This guy has had one half-a**ed practice the entire season” Tim Bontemps urges Nets to not trust Ben Simmons heading into postseason
Ben Simmons and Tim Bontemps
The addition of Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets’ squad sounds like more of a bane than a boon at this point with the NBA pundits going after Simmons and the Nets for taking the biggest L in this trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets. Simmons, who hasn’t played a single match for his new team has made the media and analysts highly sceptical of his debut for the team, which is looking to perform better in the playoffs than the regular season.
The Nets who have had a rollercoaster ride of a season are somehow holding on with high hopes of getting into the playoffs, and they have been warned to not be dependent on Ben Simmons.
The complicated tale of Simmons’ trade to the Brooklyn Nets was accompanied by a lot of controversy around his performance and his willingness to actually play. Simmons, who had an awry season initially denied to play any more matches for the 76ers, and kept requesting for a trade, to change the environment around him so that he could hopefully play better. Finally, both the teams were able to make it happen with one of the most controversial trades, of two of the most controversial players, James Harden and Ben Simmons.
Harden has now started playing for the 76ers, but the debut of Simmons for the Nets still remains a mystery, a mystery that no one has any answer to, not even the team’s head coach, Steve Nash.
With so much controversy and complication being involved around Simmons’s debut for the Nets and even if he will play for the team, NBA’s Tim Bontemps doesn’t seem to be showing a tiny bit of trust in the player and in fact has even warned the team to not be dependent on him for their postseason, and play as if Ben will be missing out on this entire season.
Let us take a closer look at Tim Bontemps’ comments made towards Ben Simmons and asses its implications for the team and the player.
Tim Bontemps least hopeful of Ben Simmons’ debut for the Brooklyn Nets, asks team to ignore the player in postseason
Simmons and his transfer to any other team from the 76ers have always been a controversial topic as the player ceased to play any game for his former team, and requested trade despite many legal and monetary issues arising. Even after Simmons finally had his wishes granted, his debut for the Nets is now in question with pundits alleging that the player is a bane more than a boon and can’t be trusted upon for anything.

NBA’s Tim Bontemps stated that Ben should not be trusted upon by his team in order to be dependent upon him to carry them into the postseason. Simmons who hasn’t even played a single game for the Nets so far still doesn’t have any clarity of when he will be able to play, and Bontemps believes that the team should consider him to miss the entire season, and therefore work accordingly.
In reaction to a question asked if Simmons could be counted on by the Nets’ team, Bontemps said, “You can’t! I’m operating on the assumption that Ben Simmons isn’t going to play this season. I think that’s the only logical assumption you can have at this point. This guy has had only one half-assed practice the entire season, and that was 8 months or 6 months ago or whatever. He’s done nothing since then. He has done nothing with the Nets.”
Even when asked if Ben Simmons could debut this season for the Nets, Bontemps wasn’t very positive in his answers. With the entire NBA sceptical about his return despite coach Steve Nash’s comments that he could play eventually in this season, Bontemps said, “So you’re telling me that this guy who had an epidural on his back this week with 3 weeks to go in the regular season is going to successfully ramp all the way up to be ready to play before the playoff starts. Or that you’re going to throw him in for his first game in the playoffs? I don’t see that happening.” Which highlighted the issues he had with the reports of Simmons’ return.
Let us now take a closer look at NBA Twitter’s reactions to Simmon’s absence from the Nets’ games and his inability to make the debut for the team.
