Veronica Burton just received the two probably the best calls so far of her life. As she has made it to the league after being selected in the Women National Basketball Association’s Draft. Adding to it she also received a congratulatory phone call from one of the greatest athletes of all-time Tom Brady himself. Veronica Burton had a great college career with many scouting eyes on her. Since she really has shown it all on many occasions on the court how great of a potential she has as a multi-positional guard on the court.
The Dallas Wings selected Veronica Burton as the seventh overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft. Since they believe in the potential she holds and the player she can become if trusted enough. She led the Big Ten in steals in all the four seasons she played at Northwestern Wildcats. Apart from steals, she is also good at scoring and playmaking. As she can act as a decoy to get her teammates wide open and then grab some highlight-worthy assists for herself. Veronica Burton in her college career averaged 13.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while playing some good defense and creating a big difference on the court.
There aren’t many players around who receive a congratulatory phone call from Tom Brady after they get drafted into the league. But Veronica Burton is one of those and all thanks to her family as they and Tom Brady share some great pieces of history together due to NFL. Steve Burton (Veronica Burtons’ father) is a former Northwestern quarterback who opted in to become a reporter for Boston television station WBZ and has interviewed Tom Brady throughout his legendary career which still continues after some drama around his retirement.

I know you finalist for the National League premier award as an All-American and now you are in the WNBA so congrats to you. I know the Burton family very well. I’ve known your dad for a long time, your brother [Austin],” Brady added. “Just know that I’m always cheering you from afar and I wish you the best of luck. You had an amazing career and we know you embody everything about the spirit of community. It will take you a long way in life, it will take you a long way in your basketball career and it will take you a long way with your family.”
Veronica Burton got a big smile on her face as the call ended as it was a living legend on the other side not something you get to experience every day. She was very thankful for that as she quoted: “That was Tom Brady, the GOAT, the greatest player of all time, wishing me a congratulations. That means more than anything. He’s the best.” Now it’s a new chapter adding to her journey where many eyes will be looking at her and the achievements she bags in the future ahead at WNBA.
