“Top 6 finish would be a long shot”: Frank Vogel assesses his Lakers’ chances of competing for the Playoffs
Frank Vogel
Frank Vogel the Los Angeles Lakers head coach wants to get the team on a winning run but insists that his team must face the reality and defend their play-in title. Vogel says that the 6th seed might be a long shot.
The current situation with Los Angeles Lakers
The current situation of the Los Angeles Lakers can be of a train running out of tracks, with the Lakers forward Anthony Davis is unable to keep himself fit for the season, and Frank Vogel and LeBron James running out of idea how to stop the wheels from falling off. The only thing left for the Lakers to defend is their prestigious crown of Play-in games champions. It’s not something the Lakers want to defend, but they did so last year by which was caused due to injuries.
Currently, the Lakers are off the pace this season as well gathering more than their share of injuries to LeBron and Anthony. The Lakers are currently no. 9 seed in the Western Conference, they will be needing to win 2 games in order to get to no.8 seed. One silver lining is that the Lakers have 24 Games to play to get themselves out of their current situation, which does not necessarily mean they will make it out of this mess, it is going to take a lot of dedication and hard work, they will be facing their city rivals Los Angeles Clippers twice. Frank Vogel has a more skeptical approach regarding the Lakers getting out of this mess.
Frank Vogel Banking on Play-in games
The Lakers have 24 games in their hand, their next 24 fixtures will have numerous meetings with teams directly above them, them getting on a winning streak will be not easy as other teams who have been consistent and are in-form will not be an easy task to take down. It is going to be a hard ask from the Lakers team to get a winning run. “We know exactly where we are in the standings. We’re six (games) back from the six spots. We’re three-and-a-half (games) back from the seven spots. We’re one-and-a-half (games) back from the eight spots. We know that the goal would be to get to the top six. That’s a long shot, but still within reach if we come out strong. If we’re not able to get that, then getting into that first play-in game (is the goal)”, Said Frank Vogel.
“The first play-in game is double elimination. The 9-10 game is single elimination. Every game is going to matter. We’ll move up as much as we can in the standings. (But) more importantly than all of that, we want to play our best basketball down the stretch and peak going into those playoff series or games.” Said Lakers Head coach. Frank Vogel is going to be criticized about his targets, but what seems is pretty accurate considering their situation. It would of no sense if they are targeting the playoffs spot when they stand for not getting closer to getting a play-in spot.
