The Mavs were trying to trade Kristaps Porzingis to the Raptors as they thought that he is not an ideal partner for their star guard Luka Doncic. The second reason was that they wanted to move him due to his regular injury issues which the Raptors clearly understand and ended the discussion for trade between them.

Marc Stein wrote, “Toronto, league sources say, stepped away because of concerns about Porzingis’ long-term health.”

He further stated, “The Wizards, sources say, went ahead with the trade on their end—to add to the bluntness—because they were as eager to ship out Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans as the Mavericks were to move on from the idea that Porzingis could be the ideal co-star for Luka Doncic.”

Kristaps Porzingis has faced severe injuries throughout this season and is currently suffering from Knee soreness and hadn’t played a single game since the last week of January. These injuries are considered to be the primary reason for the Mavs to trade, despite his great performance where he was averaging 19.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 1.7 BPG.

Why were the Wizards in to hurry to trade Spencer Dinwiddie?

Marc Stein in his report also explained why the Wizards were too eager to get Porzingis and trade Dinwiddie. According to him, the Washington franchise was not happy with the point guard’s bad rap.

Stein in his report wrote, “The Wizards, in truth, were actually even more eager to rid themselves of Dinwiddie (who is said to have turned off numerous co-workers in his brief time in DC) and Bertans (who has declined steadily and worryingly since signing a five-year, $80 million contract in November 2020) than Dallas was to shake things up,”

Till now, both Porzingis and Dinwiddie have not debuted for their new franchise and it is unclear when Porzingis will recover from his injury. It will be a wait and watch situation for everyone because on Mon, the Wizards will face the Pistons and on Tue the Mavs will go against the Heats.
