“Trade or No Trade”: Daryl Morey the Philadelphia 76ers president updates on Ben Simmons saga

Daryl Morey and Ben Simmons

Daryl Morey the president of Basketball operations of the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association is back at updating the situation the franchise is dealing with as the Ben Simmons saga continues for months. A misplay by Ben Simmons sold the series and resulted in all the drama which today every team of the league and general managers are a part of. After sitting out for half and more of the on-going season (44 games) Ben still has no plans for stepping on a NBA court to play some basketball. As the front office has neither shipped him away or come down to a mutual agreement of him playing with the team once again.

Recently Daryl Morey was criticized heavily by analysts, fans and players around the league as everyone felt he isn’t really been living up to his role and delivering as the Ben Simmons situation continues with the star holding higher ground and not the franchise. Recently Morey appeared on “The Mike Missanelli Show” on 97.5 The Fanatic where stepping up and living up to the role of a president he gave away a brief update on the situation with shipping Ben Simmons around. The trade deadline of February 10 is just some weeks away and it looks like Morey has taken over the situation while making sure the future of the franchise is safe and not just a season or two while also keeping in mind Joel Embiid’s prime.

In his time at the show he portrayed how the Philadelphia 76ers either demand a player with a great impact or have the 6 ft. 10 inches big guard hooping back, as Mr. President discussed how the prime effect of Joel Embiid makes them the contender and his talks with Simmons and his agent Rich Paul. Currently the 76ers are patient with the situation and are rooting for their guard to return as he is the perfect fit as a co-star for Joel Embiid who has the potential to help the team get better and excel.

Daryl Morey on Ben Simmons trade situation

Daryl Morey when questioned by Mike Missanelli regarding Ben Simmons getting traded by the deadline replying to it quoted: “I think it’s less likely than likely, but hopefully I’m wrong.  “Look, it won’t be from lack of trying. We have a whole team of front office [personnel], it’s all we do. We have no other job that matters, it’s all we’re working on. And I only say less likely, it won’t be because we don’t want to do it, it will be because for whatever reason, I mean I can tell you that these other 29 teams, none of them wake up and say, hey, today, how can I help the 76ers get better? They’re all worried about their own teams. The main reason I say less likely than likely is it takes two or three to tango. Trades are not easy to construct in this league, there’s a lot of risk aversion, there’s a lot of decision-makers that have to be hurdled.”

Morey for the first time had come out giving away such a detailed description of the situation the team is tackling with Ben Simmons on the trade table. He also focused on the long term future of the team as replying to Mike’s question of instead burning the season (As per fans) why don’t they agree to ship a star he quoted: “They think we are burning the season away without trading Ben, we are not only burning this season away if we trade Ben for something that makes everyone feel good. But also burning away all the other future seasons. So we are burning way more by agreeing to a marginal trade than if we are patient. We have a solid chance this year and then we also have the ability to win more in the future as well. So my point is like Trade or No Trade we are burning away whatever they view is burning away is burner away.”

Further Morey in his time at the interview said a lot regarding the saga, the players he think he can build around and ship while relating everything to the franchise future and not just some seasons-lasting happiness. This update just leaves everyone confused but has made one thing sure that Philadelphia 76ers aren’t going to settle for anything less than their expectations in return if they ship the star. As of now the front runners as discussed by Morey himself in the interview are Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons. Currently even while missing the primary guard the Philadelphia 76ers are ranked as the 5th seed in the eastern conference with the record of 26 wins and 18 losses at .591. Ben Simmons, on the other side is ready to sit out for the whole season as he still gets paid but wants a new home and out of Philadelphia as soon as possible.
