NBA Trade Rumors: Chris Paul to Phoenix Suns?
Chris Paul averaged more than 17 points per game in the 2019-20 season

The NBA 2020-21 off season has been short. Thus, the draft rumors have been more in number and interesting. Although Chris Paul has been a player who has been among the trade talks since day 1, especially after the nail-biting exit of Oklahoma City Thunder from the playoffs of last season. Chris Paul, more popularly known as CP3, has been linked to a move to the Lakers if Rajon Rondo moves out. But a new team that has shown willingness to capture the veteran is Phoenix Suns

Talking about Phoenix Suns, they were 25-38 in the regular season. But after the restart, they seemed unstoppable, winning 9 out of their 10 games. They just missed out from making the playoffs but seemed like they could be a force to reckon with if they shape their team accordingly. With Paul in it, they could accomplish that.

Booker and Ayton to benefit the most with Paul’s arrival

Chris Paul has already played under Suns’ Coach and he is aware about the latter’s style of play.

As per authentic sources published by Essentially Sports, “The Phoenix Suns have had discussions about acquiring All-Star point guard Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder.”

Now, there has been no comment from Chris Paul on where he can likely move after Thunder. But the Phoenix Suns also seem to be a reasonable location. The 10-time NBA All-star still has two years left on his fat contract with OKC. He is sure to earn $41.45 million in 2020-21 and another $44.2 million (with a player option) in the following year. The Thunder, who is anyway looking for a complete rebuilding, would not like to house an elephant. Having said that, it was for CP3 that they could force Game 7 on the Rockets, but probably that was the best possible outcome.

On the other hand, the Suns have $20 million in excess in their salary cap. They are one of the few sides that can actually do justice with the hefty contract requirements of the aging Paul.
