Wilt Chamberlain
Wilt Chamberlain was the greatest basketball player of all time, his illustrious career became an example for the upcoming stars of the NBA. The records which Wilt set during his career in the era 60s, and 70s are still unbreakable, he scored 100 points in one game and averaged 50 points in one season these incredible stats are out of the league for the current NBA stars.
Chamberlain was a very straight-forward person just like his basketball game, he created such stats that were unexpectable from a player but there was one stat that he never showed any interest in.

During an interview, Wilt Chamberlain discussed why he never cared about triple-double in the NBA. He explained in the interview that triple-double is the biggest misleading statistic that misguides the fans. He also said that fans get tricked after viewing such stats, the triple-double is just the numbers for Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor who use it to hide that they had a bad game.

Wilt Chamberlain said, “This guy had a triple-double. And then the fans think that he just did something spectacular. Some of these triple-doubles of Jerry West, Oscar Roberston, Elgin Baylor had, they would have thought they were having the worst day in the world.”

Wilt Chamberlain holds the record for most triple-double in the season in his era, despite having such a lead in this stat he still finds it completely useless and even today he is in the sixth position of all-time Triple double list of the NBA.
But, Chamberlain’s explanation on triple-double stats does create some questions and doubts about these stats. If the player had a triple-double in a game doesn’t mean he was scoring more points for his team it is possible that might have struggled to get the double-digit but some achieved triple-double by assist and rebound

A great example of such a player in the current era could be Russell Westbrook who holds the record for the most triple-doubles in NBA history despite having bad shooting games. This argument doesn’t prove he is a bad player but it does question the credibility of the triple-double stats
