The Detroit Pistons have finally done it. They have finally stopped their consecutive losing streak at a whopping 28 games. They have managed to keep themselves away from even further sporting infamy.
After losing the game against the league-leading Boston Celtics, many fans were optimistic after seeing what the Pistons did in the first half. This time around it was the Toronto Raptors. A 12-19 team, lying just a few places above the Pistons in the Eastern Conference. If they played even close to their 1st half-performance we saw at TD Garden, the Pistons would be good.
And so they did. Despite the lead changing 11 times, the Pistons kept the Raptors at bay and won the game 129-127. They avoid matching the World War II era Chicago Cardinals for the worst record in any North American major league.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Pistons had a decent lead. However, a run from the Raptors brought them close towards the end of the quarter. A 2-point shot brought the game down to two points with 1 second on the clock. Even the commentators let out an ‘Oh My’ reaction considering how close the score was.
Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 30 points and 12 assists. Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. All 5 starters for the Pistons ended with double-digit points. The Raptors were led by Pascal Siakam with 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Dennis Schroder added 30 points and 9 assists in the loss.
Basketball fans are relieved with Detroit Pistons’ win after 28 games
With the worst record for most consecutive losses just a couple of losses away, fans did not want a current-generation team to have the record. Everyone wanted the Pistons to win tonight’s game. The 1st half of the last game against the Celtics gave everyone hope. Now, the fans can take it easy after some continuous coverage of the losing streak.
When the Pistons won, fans were quick to voice their happiness on social media. When the Pistons opened the season 2-1, nobody could predict such a string of losses. Fans had been waiting for this moment for a long long time. Check out their comments on social media below;
Finally, the Pistons and basketball fans can rest. The Pistons need to use this win to bounce back. If they are not as bad as they look, as some have claimed, it should materialize into a better season going forward.
