“He thinks the X-Factor is being white” – NBA Twitter SLAMS Phil Jackson for controversial opinion about Vince Carter
Fans criticize Phil Jackson for his controversial take where he ends up disrespecting Vince Carter while comparing him to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Phil Jackson and Vince Carter
Phil Jackson has made headlines this week, and again for all the wrong reasons. Once revered for being the head coach with the most titles in NBA history, Jackson has been a controversial name around the league in recent days.
His recent interview with record producer and host of the Broken Records podcast Rick Rubin led to a flurry of outrage on social. Earlier this week he was criticized for claiming he has not been watching NBA since 2020 as he didn’t like the slogans on the player’s jersey. This wasn’t the first time he has made such remarks. He had previously said that he wanted basketball to stay out of politics. Also, Jackson’s takes on racial topics haven’t turned out to be a great many times in the past too.
This time Phil Jackson is viral for his controversial take on Vince Carter from the same interview. He ended up disrespecting the best dunker the league has seen so far who is also known as, “Half Man Half Amazing” and is known for his “Vinsanity”.
It all started when Rick Rubin asked a question to Phil Jackson relating to a player who can match the caliber of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan who were coached by PJ. Rick quoted: “Did you ever see a player that you thought could be Michael, could be Kobe, but for whatever reason it just never came together. Like you saw the promise but it didn’t happen?”
Replying to it Phil Jackson said: “Yeah, there’s a couple. There’s a couple of players that were actual contemporaries of theirs. Carter, Vince Carter is one of them. And he was really good, and he won the dunk contest, and you know, he had a long career he played until he was 40. He had a really good career but he just didn’t have that X factor.”
Fans didn’t appreciate Phil Jackson’s take on Vince Carter’s ability and his career. The former Toronto Raptors star is beloved by the fans and they weren’t letting this disrespect slide. So without wasting any time the internet has called out the Zen Master for his take on Carter.

NBA Twitter upset about Phil Jackson’s opinion on Vince Carter
Fans on Twitter rushed to criticize Phil Jackson for his take on Vince Carter. While most took Carter’s side, some believe the former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers head coach was right. You can find some of the many reactions on Twitter here below:
Vince Carter could have won a few championships and individual accolades during his two-decade-long career. But it wasn’t his missing “X Factor” as Phil said, but rather a permanent home. After his time with the Raptors ended, he went on to play for seven more teams, looking for the ideal situation. But during his 22 seasons-long NBA career he wasn’t able to find a solid cast of players and a complete team to move ahead with consistency.
