The last time Marcus Morris was in the news, he was speaking his mind as an analyst on ESPN. After not finding a job anymore in the NBA, the 35-year-old has taken to his new career as a broadcaster.
The 6′ 8″ forward last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and has amassed more than $100 million from basketball checks. In regard to checks, now he has found himself in a bit of a pickle.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, arrested the Philadelphia native on Sunday over a case of a bad check. That is when someone issues a check with insufficient balance to encash it.
The fraud charge came in from another state, and he is being held without bond. As per the arrest documents, the 35-year-old is awaiting trial and will have to wait behind bars unless something develops.
This is not the first time Marcus Morris Sr. has found himself entangled with law enforcement. Back in 2012, he was arrested after he and another person punched a bar employee while they were watching a Kansas-Missouri basketball game.
He was let go after entering a diversion agreement. Three years later, Morris and his twin brother Markieff Morris, along with NFL safety Gerald Bowman and two others, were arrested in Arizona after an assault on 36-year-old Eric Hood.
At the time, the twins were playing for the Phoenix Suns, and probably did not appreciate when Hood, who had mentored the Morris twins, allegedly sent inappropriate text messages to their mother.
After the two other unnamed assailants confessed, the three athletes were let go. Marcus Morris hopes this one, too, would come to some sort of agreement, and he can return to work with ESPN.
Markieff Morris sounds out on Marcus Morris’ arrest
There are no further details on this case as Marcus Morris sits in prison. However, his twin brother, Markieff Morris, shared a post on his X page, which seems to indicate this arrest was unnecessary.
The wording is crazy. Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud s**t. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this shit man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird s**t gave me a headache. This post seems to suggest that the arrest at the airport when Marcus Morris was with his family was a tad unnecessary. The former Los Angeles Lakers star believes this could have been solved back at his twin brothers’ home.

He believes once he is out of prison and from this case, he will reveal why it went this way. Whatever this situation is, there is no escaping the fact that the former Los Angeles Clippers star had issued a bad check, which is inexplicable for someone who is supposed to have a grip on his finances.
Morris twins had quite the basketball journey for 1st round picks
When Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris entered the NBA Draft, teams were intrigued by their performances for the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team. That led to the twins being selected 13th and 14th overall in the 2011 draft.

While the latter went to the Phoenix Suns, the former was selected by the Houston Rockets, who then traded him to join his twin in Arizona. After that 2 year stint of playing alongside each other, the brothers have essentially hopped around all over the country.
Marcus Morris spent 13 seasons with 8 different teams, and Markieff Morris has played 15 seasons with the same number of teams. The latter has the edge on his brother after winning a title and has been contemplating retirement. He might do so if he does not get a good contract for next season.
