Mike Budenholzer and the Milwaukee Bucks got the curtains pulled down on their season by the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat. The Bucks were the best team in the regular season so their first-round exit is very unfortunate. Mike Budenholzer’s team lost the series in 5 Games as Miami Heat came up with a gentleman’s sweep. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury which limited him in the series is a major reason behind the loss.

But many are also pointing fingers at Head Coach Mike Budenholzer. Even Giannis Antetokounmpo believes that the correct adjustments weren’t made in the series. ‘The Greek Freak’ wanted to guard Jimmy Butler more but Mike didn’t put him on Playoff Jimmy and now they have nothing but regrets. So the basketball world is very critical of Mike Budenholzer’s coaching in the series.

But it wasn’t any normal playoff series for Mike Budenholzer who led the Bucks to a NBA title in 2021. As he was dealing with an enormous personal tragedy during the series and kept it all to himself until the series ended. So his team stays focused on basketball. Mike Budenholzer is the youngest of the seven children in the family. And, unfortunately, just before Game 4 he lost one of his three brothers.

So the mental pressure on Mike Budenholzer is understandable as that was a personal loss while the Bucks too were struggling against the Miami Heat. Budenholzer didn’t disclose this tragedy during this series. Game 5 was a complete rollercoaster ride for the Bucks as from leading the game with double-digits they fell on the losing end in Overtime. Honestly, Mike shouldn’t be portrayed as the reason behind the Bucks’ loss. As he didn’t give up on his team and was committed until the very end.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ Head Coach, Darvin Ham revealed the tragic time Mike Budenholzer was going through. As they have a special relationship developed during their years working together and coaching the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. Darvin Ham revealed it while reacting to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s heated exchange with a reporter.

Ham said: “Coach Bud is going through a lot on a personal level. He just lost his brother, so, my apologies Bud if I wasn’t supposed to let anybody know. He and I’ve been texting. I love those guys.” Later through a spokesman, Mike Budenholzer confirmed the tragic news to The Athletic while mentioning he loves and respects Ham. As reported the reason behind the death of his brother is “the result of injuries sustained in a car accident.”

Mike Budenholzer is under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks through the 2024-25 season. As he signed a three-year extension in 2021. But after the disappointing end of the Bucks’ season, many want him gone as he failed to make the right adjustments. But let’s not forget that he holds a 69.3% regular season winning percentage (271-120) which is the best over the past five seasons.

Still, the Milwaukee Bucks were able to bring home only one NBA championship. And, now with the possible changes coming in the ownership, nothing can be said about Mike Budenholzer’s future with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Also, the organization is going to have a tough off-season deciding who to bring back, trade, payout, waive off, and even fire.
