Reggie Miller is one of the best shooting guards the game has ever seen. He’s also one of the fine scorers and three-point shooters in the league’s history. But unfortunately, he had to end his career without a championship. During Reggie Miller’s prime years with the Indiana Pacers, it was Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls getting the job done. And, like every other 1990’s trash-talking superstar, even he has an MJ story.
Reggie Miller isn’t the best trash-talking competitor but he surely is high up in that list. As he messed with Michael Jordan in his rookie year itself and that didn’t end well for him is just a different part. In an interview of his with Jimmy Kimmel on the show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Reggie Miller once revealed how he got clowned by Michael Jordan for running his mouth when he was questioned about his trash-talking stories.
Reggie Miller revealing his experience of getting humbled by Michael Jordan quoted: “I started talking as soon as I got into the league, but I had a bad experience. My rookie year, we were playing the Chicago Bulls, this is Michael Jordan’s third or fourth year in… I’m a wide-eyed energetic rookie, and we’re playing this exhibition game and Michael’s going through the motion.”
Further, Reggie Miller added how after a good half of his, his teammate, Chuck Person suggested him to trash-talk Michael Jordan. As Reggie had MJ limited on the offensive end. Then Miller added: “I was like, you know what, you’re right; ‘Michael, who do you think you are? The great Michael Jordan? That’s right, there’s a new kid in town.’ He kind of looks at me and starts shaking his head. So at the half, I have 10 and he has 4 points right. I’m doing all this talking, he’s like ok. End of the game, in the second half, he ended up with 44 and I ended up with 12. So he outscored me 40-2! And as he’s walking off he’s like ‘Be sure and be careful you never talk to Black Jesus again.”
This exchange between Reggie Miller and Michael Jordan happened not during an NBA game but just in an exhibition game. So it’s fair to say that both were tough competitors at different levels. Also, Reggie Miller after revealing his experience admitted to having never trash-talked Michael Jordan throughout his NBA career.
Reggie Miller’s reply for Michael Jordan if he would have ever recruited him
Reggie Miller was loyal to the Indiana Pacers throughout his career. But unfortunately, he was never able to win a title. And, in an interview with ESPN’s Nick Friedell in 2021 when he was questioned about leaving the Pacers for some superstar pitches to join forces. Reggie Miller had a very clear response to it as he was least interested to be a rider on the bus instead of driving it around.
Replying to it, Reggie Miller quoted: “No. And if Michael Jordan ever would have called me and tried to sway me to come to Chicago, I would have told him to go f— himself! ‘I’ll be coming to see you on I-65 or whatever that highway is there. I’ll be down to see you.’”
Further, Reggie Miller even clowned his biggest rivals New York Knicks. But later he also admitted he was never close to going anywhere else. And, if he wanted to have gone, Reggie Miller said he would have chosen to play in his hometown for the Lakers.
