LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers did not have a great season this year finishing out of the play-in tournament berth just a few games behind. To what many believed had to be the mistake of the coaching staff as well as the players, it was more likely a blunder on the front office’s end. The Lakers recently fired Head Coach Frank Vogel after failing to lead them into the playoffs.
A part of the hate has also been directed towards LeBron for wrongly choosing the roster he wanted to be surrounded with after the Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook during the off-season. This season was a complete disgrace of a year as Laker Nation would say. Many analysts and fans claimed that LeBron is not loved but is only valued in LA for being a famous figure in the league. The Lakers had performed so miserably that players around the league started calling their matchups against the team “fun” and not “challenging.”
Shaquille O’Neal throws shade over LeBron James saying he is not “feared” anymore
This season has been quite the upset for LeBron James. Now that he failed to get his team into the playoffs many have been criticizing him over the situation calling him “washed”. Former NBA player and Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal went viral on the internet after saying the King is no longer the best or most feared player on the court. Many players of the older generations have often chosen their own over LeBron James.
“LeBron is my guy, but nobody was ever scared of LeBron. So, if you’re not scared of a guy, you just have much more confidence. That’s a dangerous guy to play with. They respect him, but they don’t fear him, cause I can tell, I watched him playing against them, they not scared,” said Shaq. ESPN’s Skip Bayless was elated over the comments and took to Twitter saying, “LeBron is my guy, but nobody was ever scared of LeBron. Unlike Bayless who was very joyous over the comments made by Shaq, his partner on the Undisputed had some words for the Hall of Famer. “How does a guy get to ten finals in damn near two decades and nobody fears him. The Toronto Raptors never feared LeBron? The Celtics wouldn’t have traded for KG and Ray Allen if they weren’t scared. Why would the Warriors get KD if no one feared him?” said Shannon Sharpe after being infuriated by Shaq’s words.
He continued to bash the legend saying, “I disagree with Shaq. He keeps talking about Giannis coming down the hill. Has anyone driven the basketball to the hoop, stronger and harder than LeBron James? Shaq, where have you been for the last eighteen years? LeBron James was doing what Giannis is doing currently, for the last nineteen years. And somehow Shaq forgot that? HOW?”
