The Philadelphia 76ers made a statement in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs, sweeping the Brooklyn Nets in four games. Despite star center Joel Embiid sitting out the final game with a knee injury, the Sixers were able to secure a 96-88 victory and advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Throughout the series, the Sixers dominated on both ends of the court, outscoring the Nets by an average of 11.2 points per game. The team’s defense was particularly impressive, holding the Nets to just 95.75.5 points per game and limiting their star duo of Spencer Dinwiddie and Mikal Bridges.
With the victory, the Sixers now turn their attention to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face either the Boston Celtics or the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics currently hold a 2-1 lead in their first-round series, but the Sixers will have some time to rest up and prepare for whichever team they face.
Sixers prepare for second-round matchup
As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for their second-round matchup in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the team finds itself in a unique position. Despite finishing the regular season as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Sixers will enter the second round as one of the favorites to advance to the conference finals.
The Sixers’ potential second-round opponents, the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks, present different challenges for the team. The Celtics, who currently hold a 2-1 lead over the Hawks in their first-round series, have proven to be a tough matchup for the Sixers this season.
In four regular-season meetings, the Celtics won three of the four games, with all four games decided by single digits. However, the Sixers did manage to pull out a 103-101 victory in their most recent matchup on April 4, a game in which Joel Embiid put up a dominant performance with 52 points and 13 rebounds.
On the other hand, the Sixers did have success against the Hawks during the regular season, winning three of the four matchups, including a 136-131 overtime victory on April 7 in a game where they rested their starters.
As the Sixers prepare for their second-round matchup, the team will be relying heavily on the health of Joel Embiid. The star center has been dealing with a knee injury and did not play in the team’s final game against the Nets. However, if Embiid is able to play at a high level, the Sixers will be a tough out for any team in the playoffs.
