A business executive, engineer, author, lecturer, and philanthropist, Vivek Ranadive is Indian-American. He presently serves as the Sacramento Kings’ co-owner and chairman. Ranadive made history before joining the Kings by becoming the first person of Indian heritage to share ownership of an NBA team with the Golden State Warriors.
Vivek Ranadive unexpectedly developed interest in buying the Sacramento Kings while he was still at Golden State. Sources claim that on March 21, 2013, Ranadive joined Ronald Burkle and Mark Mastrov in their effort to buy the franchise. Unfortunately, the Indian investor had to sell his ownership stake in the Golden State Warriors in order to move forward with his choice.
Vivek’s ties to the Warriors were severed as a result of the action, and the team was formally purchased in May 2013. Since acquiring 65% of the team, Ranadive has faced criticism for his ownership of the Kings. According to sources, they attributed Sacramento’s failures on the court to the Indian owner.
But given where the Kings stand right now, the criticism might soon end. The Sacramento Kings are presently the sixth seed in the Western Conference as of December 24. With a current record of 17-14, they still have a chance to advance if they win their next two games. Having said that, it’s possible that the Kings will make the playoffs this year for the first time since the 2005–06 campaign.

About Vivek Ranadive’s personal life
There are three kids between Ranadive and his ex-wife Deborah Addicott: Aneel, Andre and Anjali. Anjali is an R&B vocalist and composer. In April 2014, she composed and released “We Turn Up,” her debut single. “Nobody,” her second song, was a collaboration with Tyga. Since Anjali has always valued older citizens in her life, she goes by the stage name “Nani,” which translates to “maternal grandma” in Hindi.
Anjali started Jaws & Paws, a marine and animal conservation NGO that raises awareness for the conservation of tigers, polar bears, and sharks. Anjali graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in marine science. She was given the 2015 Paul Walker Ocean Leadership Award by the Monterey Bay Aquarium in October of that year. She participated in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in 2022 as well.
Despite, in his own words, never having held a basketball until he was in his 40s, Ranadive managed his daughter’s 12-and-under girls’ basketball team. Malcolm Gladwell wrote about Ranadive’s team’s improbable triumph in The New Yorker, and he subsequently incorporated the tale in David and Goliath, his 2013 book. Ranadive contributed $55,731 to Democratic candidates and organisations between 2016 and 2020.
