“Why did you throw the phone away?” Twitter left in splits as Jusuf Nurkic ‘needlessly’ stares down a young Pacers fan

Jusuf Nurkic throws young fan's phone away

Jusuf Nurkic staring down a young fan from the opposition team isn’t the most ideal thing you will hear today or any other day for that matter, but it is the truth, and it did happen post the Portland Trailblazers game against Indiana Pacers in the latter’s home-court. Faceoffs and stare-downs aren’t a very common phenomenon in the NBA world, and a faceoff between a fan and a player? Definitely not. But the most peculiar part about this incident being, this faceoff wasn’t between a fan and any normal player, but instead a young fan seated courtside and a player who is out with injury and wasn’t obliged to interact with anyone post the game.

But alas, the uncommon is now becoming the common phenomenon in the NBA with fans willing to cross the lines in order to gain fame and attraction or in order to get under the skin of players who are playing the game and minding their own business. Unfortunately, this time it doesn’t really seem like the young fan did anything wrong for Jusuf Nurkic to come at him, stare him down and then throw his phone away with no words being spoken by him. Other than speculations that the fans sitting courtside were calling Nurkic out throughout the game, there is no other hard evidence that anything offensive was said or anything wrong was done.

There have been incidents in the past where players have been said worse things, have been targeted for their religion, have been targeted for their race in many worse ways, and those have been the times when actions have been taken against those fans, often by the league and sometimes even by the victim players. Despite no evidence of even heckling coming from the fans, Nurkic wasn’t able to handle a tiny bit of pressure despite not even playing the match.

Let us now take a closer look at this incident where Jusuf Nurkic took on a fan in a peculiar manner, needlessly throwing his phone away without giving any answer.

The League will definitely take actions against Nurkic for throwing a fan’s phone away and staring the young fan down without any words being said or any hard evidence of vulgarities or abuses coming from the fan’s side. Nurkic will probably be fined but that won’t answer the questions the entire world is asking him, why did he even do that?

With a multitude of interactions occurring between players and fans who pay a huge amount of money to sit courtside and witness things going down, such incidents are bound to happen where fans try to get the players’ attention or try to get under their skin, and such behaviour is even condemned, but it never really happens that a player sitting on the bench goes to them in order to throw their phone away, and well, it seems Nurkic wanted to do that exact thing.

After the Trailblazers’ terrible loss to the Pacers, Jusuf Nurkic, who didn’t play the game and has already missed multiple games due to his injury walked courtside to an Indiana Pacers’ fan and stared him down before snatching his phone from his hands and then threw it away without saying any word. The young fan even asked Nurkic, “Why did you throw my phone away?” to which Nurkic didn’t say a word and a guard came in between to separate them both, after which Nurkic Walked away.

It seems as if Nurkic took the Blazers’ loss a bit too close to his heart as the team is an effort to qualify for the playoffs this season. The Pacers who are already out of contention for the playoffs defeated the Trailblazers by 129-98, and his team’s loss seemed to hit Nurkic a bit too hard.
