Why is Cam Whitmore not playing?

Cam Whitmore, Villanova Wildcats’ 6-foot-7 wing from Maryland, has seen some serious delay in his return to the courts. His previous thumb surgery saw Cam miss an unexpected amount of playtime earlier. Now Whitmore has yet again suffered an eye injury, and it might be serious.
It has been reported that the potential NBA draft pick had sustained an eye injury during one of the practice sessions. Whitmore is still coping with his post-surgery healing process, and his new injury seems to be another issue at hand.
Cam has now missed the first seven games with his thumb injury, where the Wildcats went 2-5. Previously, he averaged 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds and was named the Big East freshman of the year. The sensational Wildcats star had drawn attention following his dazzling display last summer.

Cam Whitmore: A Projected 2023 NBA Pick

Whitmore is projected as a potential first-round pick for the 2023 NBA draft. He is currently in his last year of eligibility this season.
The summer saw him make advance up the 2023 NBA draft boards. Cam played a crucial part in leading the US U-18 team to the FIBA Americas Championship last year. It is reported that quite a few 2023 mock drafts have the youngster in the top 10 picks.
However, Cam’s new injury might slow down his return to the courts, and worse, it might even tilt his position down the ranks among projected 2023 NBA picks. Many have also insinuated that Whitmore may be already heading for the NBA. That would mean the Wildcats have seen the last of Cam, and amid these reports, his eye injury doesn’t really seem to be a hoax.
Whether so or not, fans will definitely wish for the youngster’s quick recovery. Above all, the NBA truly could be the perfect platform for Cam’s sensational talent. Remains to be seen if that will indeed be the case.
